Five years ago, Acacia Network expanded our work directly onto the Island of Puerto Rico. Working with local experts and consultants, we began the development an affordable housing project for seniors in Puerto Rico. Our project is under construction, and this disaster has set the efforts back. But our commitment to the community is resilient, and we are shifting our focus to the people and their immediate needs. With our initial $1 million dollar donation, we have launched our relief efforts. Right now, the best thing all of us can do is raise funds as much as we can so that when transportation and shipping resumes, we can be sure to get all of your donations to the victims of the Hurricane. We are in constant communication with many local and grassroots partners who are assisting us with the distribution of our help on the Island. Our goal is to bring help directly to the people, with local non-profits with boots on the ground and the infrastructure to deliver the help. As soon as we have more details we will update you.
Thank you for your support!
Help us, help Puerto Rico
Hurricane Maria, the most catastrophic hurricane to hit our beloved Island in almost a century, has left devastation for the people of Puerto Rico. The impact of this hurricane will be felt by all of us for a long time to come. Acacia Network, the largest Puerto Rican non-profit organization in the U.S., in partnership with other organizations, government, and private entities, is mobilizing to provide critical relief directly to the Island and all of its victims. Acacia’s leadership and Board have committed $1 million dollars to kick off the AyudaPuertoRico/DonatePuertoRico campaign, and requests matching funds from our colleagues and partners.
With the total loss of electric power and catastrophic flood waters, many parts of the Island are uninhabitable. The first response needed at this time is cash donations to assist with their immediate needs — clearing the roads, getting medicine to the sick and injured, and helping the most vulnerable residents, the elderly and the very young. We plan to have the Acacia team on the first flights to Puerto Rico as a part of our initial response, and to keep you informed. We will work onsite with the various communities, people, and entities in Puerto Rico to best determine what is needed and where.
Acacia Network asks you to join us in supporting the people of Puerto Rico, and we will ensure that 100% of ALL donations will go directly to the victims of this hurricane. Your contribution (large or small) is much needed and will make a difference to our familia on the Island. Please DONATE today! Muchas gracias a todos.
